BSA Logo

The mission of the Black Student Association shall be to encourage diversity and inclusion of all historically underrepresented groups to the Longwood community and surrounding areas. Along with developing citizen leaders and maintain the roots of the organization within the African-American culture, while stretching ourselves as individuals and as a multicultural organization.

This logo was created with the idea of an amalgamation of a man and tree to signify the importance of knowing your roots and flourishing in that knowledge. This was created by using a silhouette of a tree and replacing the top with the features of a man, to make it appear as if the arms suddenly became branches. Black and gold are the official colors of the BSA and I felt that they should be properly identified in the logo.

The centerpiece that is a person and the first part of the roots were drawn in Illustrator. This was then exported to Photoshop so that the branches, and roots could be added into the logo. The logo was created on an 11 X 11 inch canvas with a 300 ppi and a color mode of RGB 8 bit.

This logo is used on every publication and advertisement that BSA publishes on Longwood University's campus. This logo has also been made into a t-shirt and has raised funds for the organization as a fundraiser by selling the shirts.
